Chlamydia Symptoms
The symptoms of chlamydia are usually mild or absent, but can cause serious complications such as infertility. It’s important to understand that 75% of women and 50% of men show no symptoms at all, making regular testing for sexually active individuals an important part of one’s sexual health.
In women, the initial symptoms might include:
- abnormal vaginal discharge
- burning sensation while urinating
Once the disease spreads from the cervix to the fallopian tubes, the symptoms in women might progress into:
- pain in the lower abdomen
- lower back pain
- nausea
- fever
- pain during intercourse
- bleeding between menstrual periods
For men, the symptoms most commonly associated with Chlamydia are:
- clear or colored discharge from the penis
- burning sensation while urinating
- burning and itching around the opening of the penis
- and less commonly, pain and swelling in the testicles
